KEYSTONE LAKE

Keystone Lake is located on the Arkansas River just below the confluence of the Cimarron River in an area once known as Triangle Country. The lake was named for the community of Keystone, a post office from 1900 until 1962 when it was inundated by the waters of the lake. There is an abundance of recreational opportunities, including swimming, picnicking, RV and tent camping, boating, a variety of nature trails, and ORV and motorcycle trails in the Appalachia Bay and White Water Park areas. Keystone Lake provides great fishing opportunities for white and black bass, crappie and catfish. A 10-acre nursery pond has been built in the Salt Creek area for black bass fingerlings which are later released into the lake to supplement the bass population. Keystone Public Hunting Area, covering approximately 15,500 acres, lies along much of the shoreline which consists of bottomland timber and post oak, blackjack and prairie fields. Principal wildlife include squirrel, rabbit, quail, dove and waterfowl. Additional facilities include drinking water, group shelters, restrooms, showers, electric outlets, playgrounds and cabins at the adjacent Lake Keystone State Park. Shoreline length is 330 miles.
