Waurika Lake
Waurika Lake is on Beaver Creek--a tributary of the Red River--in Jefferson, Stephens and Cotton Counties. The site is on the old Chisholm Trail, among the most famous of cattle trails connecting the ranches of Texas to the rail shipping points in Kansas. The lake is set in rolling prairies interspersed with croplands and timbered areas. Excellent fishing and hunting opportunities with principal species of channel catfish, flathead catfish, bullhead catfish, largemouth bass, crappie and sunfish. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation manages 10,387 acres of land and water for fish and wildlife purposes, all of which is open for hunting. Principal targets are whitetail deer, quail, mourning dove, cottontail rabbit, wild turkey and numerous waterfowl. Six recreation areas are located around the lake and large expanses of open water provide enjoyment to boating and skiing enthusiasts. Facilities include boat ramps, picnic areas, RV campsites with full hookups, covered canopy and picnic table/grill, group shelters, restrooms, showers, swimming beaches, change houses, electric outlets. Lake offers 10,100 surface acres and 80 miles of shoreline. User fees apply to boat ramps and camping areas; Golden Age or Access card accepted. Current Lake Level
